A talent for innovation

What makes Original Ventures stand out?  Years of genuine, specialist experience in innovation and transformation.

Clare O’Neill: founder of Original Ventures

Clare advises SMEs and large multinational companies on how to develop a great environment for innovation to thrive, helping to make them more robust and competitive.  Driven by her curiosity and an aptitude for seeing many possibilities, she has a natural instinct for spotting and challenging assumptions to help find a better way.

Clare has 20 years’ experience in innovation management:

  • innovation strategy: developing the right environment to boost innovation performance – people, systems, culture, leadership
  • strategic planning: transforming a vision into a plan of action
  • coaching and mentoring: acting as a critical friend to start-up entrepreneurs and senior management
  • collaboration: quickly grasping different points of view from across organisations and disciplines, helping partnerships to deliver successful results

Before setting up Original Ventures, Clare was Deputy CEO at the internationally-admired innovation agency, Manchester Knowledge Capital, where she directed initiatives such as the Innovation Boardroom. Her experience also includes technology transfer and knowledge exchange in higher education, creating spinout companies and managing a diverse Intellectual Property portfolio. In the early 1990s she supported the creation of some of Russia’s first ever business incubators as it opened up to free markets. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience and an MBA degree, and in 2007 was elected as a Fellow of the RSA for her work on developing innovative places.

In addition to running Original Ventures, she is Chair of the Manchester branch of the Institute of Directors, and a Trustee at the British Council for Prevention of Blindness.
